Complex carbohydrates are involved in numerous biological events and thus constitute an important class of biomolecules. The prime focus of our group is the chemical synthesis of biologically relevant oligosaccharides that can be utilized for designing glycoconjugates and vaccine designing. In the process we attend the need of developing novel techniques for protecting group manipulations on carbohydrate structures and efficient stereoselective glycosylation. In addition, we are looking at the possibilities of developing bio-markers for the detection of proteins/lectins through the specific interactions of saccharides decorated on metal complexes and nanoparticles. Recently our lab is significantly engaged in developing Low Molecular Weight Organogels/Hydrogels by the supramolecular assembly of carbohydrate molecules.
